How the Earworx Procedure Works
The first step of our earwax removal service is to gain a thorough history and to perform an examination to confirm whether wax removal is clinically indicated. It’s important not to remove earwax unnecessarily as it forms a healthy barrier against infection, lubricates the ear canals, and captures and prevents dust and dirt from entering the ear.
If wax removal is clinically indicated, one of our trained and qualified registered nurses will extract the wax using microsuction; this is like a tiny vacuum cleaner for your ear. Throughout the procedure our nurses wear ‘loupes’, which are special glasses designed like binoculars and equipped with a bright light to facilitate direct vision into your ear canals during the procedure. This direct vision enhances safety during the wax removal procedure.
If you want to know more about the procedure, you can find more information here.
Why You Might Need Earwax Removal
Symptoms from excessive or impacted earwax can include itching, pain, a feeling of fullness and blockage, tinnitus or hearing loss. The symptoms can be uncomfortable or in particularly severe cases, debilitating.
If you are a regular swimmer or diver, often wear earphones, wear hearing aids or earplugs, work in dusty environments, or have hairy, narrow or bendy ear canals, you may find you are more prone to wax build-up than the average person.
Pricing
Ear wax is removed for a flat rate of $120 in Erina, and $95 concession for veterans, pensioners, health care card holders and children under 18 years Australia wide. If a second appointment is required this will be complimentary. This fee is paid at the time of the appointment via debit / credit card. This fee is partly rebatable through St Lukes Health or Health Care Insurance, depending on your level of cover. Please contact St Lukes or your Health Care Insurance provider directly to ascertain the amount of your health care fund rebate. If no wax is found in your ears at the time of your appointment, a reduced $60 rate applies.
