About Earworx Kingston
Earworx Kingston brings nurse-led earwax removal to Kingston, operating from within TerryWhite Chemmart at Kingston Town Shopping Centre. Each Registered Nurse is trained in microsuction by Earworx, and wax is removed using microsuction and instrumentation.
Earworx began in Tasmania in 2016, founded in Hobart by Registered Nurse, Lisa Hellwege, and has since grown into a national network of clinics. Kingston adds to the Earworx presence in southern Tasmania, bringing appointments a little closer for people living south of Hobart.
With the clinic in a shopping centre, it is easy to fit an appointment around the weekly shop. Kingston Town is close by for people in Blackmans Bay, Kingston Beach, Huntingfield, Taroona, Margate, Snug and the Channel.

How the Earworx Procedure Works
Earworx Kingston removes earwax with microsuction, using a slim suction instrument while your nurse watches through magnifying loupes. Before anything starts, your nurse examines your ears and talks with you about whether microsuction suits your situation.
Please Note: Earworx Kingston can see children from 4 years of age. Children need to stay fairly still and follow instructions, so a chat with Earworx staff before booking is recommended. Your nurse will assess whether the procedure is suitable for your child, and a parent or guardian must attend or provide written consent.
Step 1: Professional Assessment – Looking & Listening
- Close examination of each ear with magnifying loupes
- A check of the ear canal and the wax present
- Questions about your history, including past ear procedures and any drops you have used
- Space to share what you have noticed and ask anything you like
Step 2: Microsuction Earwax Removal
- No water used at any stage of the procedure
- Suction controlled by your nurse
- Instrumentation such as a curette or microforceps, where your nurse judges it appropriate.
- The ear canal kept in view from start to finish
- Continuous communication, and you can ask for a break whenever you need one
- Worth knowing: the suction is noisy up close, and some people notice a coolness in the ear or feel briefly dizzy
Step 3: Aftercare
- Your nurse shares what they found during the appointment
- Guidance on everyday ear care at home
- Advice on next steps, such as a follow-up visit or seeing your GP if needed
Is Professional Ear Care Right for You?
Healthy ears usually manage earwax on their own, slowly moving it out of the ear canal. Occasionally it gathers faster than it clears, and that is when booking earwax removal in Kingston can be worth considering.
Signs Your Ears Might Need Attention
Are you experiencing any of these symptoms?
- Sounds seem distant or muted
- A plugged, full feeling in the ear
- A persistent itch inside the ear
Plenty of things besides earwax can cause these. A registered nurse can check whether wax is the cause, tell you what they find, and suggest seeing your GP if needed.
Who Tends to Experience Earwax Buildup?
Some ears are simply more prone to wax build-up. Around Kingston and the Channel, these factors often play a part:
Living around the water: Swimming at Kingston Beach and Blackmans Bay, surfing, kayaking or boating on the D’Entrecasteaux Channel can leave water in the ear canal, softening wax so it packs together.
Outdoor and industry work: Aquaculture, forestry and building sites across Kingston and the Huon expose ears to dust and debris, and the earmuffs or plugs worn for protection can hold wax in place.
Devices in the ear: Earbuds and hearing aids sit in the ear canal for long stretches, getting in the way of the ear’s natural clearing. If you wear hearing aids, let your nurse know at your appointment.
Well-meaning habits: Cotton buds usually push wax further down the ear canal. Ear candles and other home remedies are also best avoided.
Your own ears: Genetics decide how much wax you make, the shape and width of your ear canals affect how well it clears, and wax tends to become firmer with age.
