What’s Involved in the Earworx Procedure?

Everyone has earwax, and while it may not seem very pleasant, it’s normally nothing to be worried about. Earwax actually keeps our ears healthy, serving as a protective barrier to prevent infection and foreign bodies from entering our ears and damaging our ear drum.

However, sometimes we can suffer from excess or impacted earwax. When our ears produce too much wax, or that wax becomes hard and stuck inside the ear, it can be painful and comfortable.

Fortunately, Earworx offers a safe and gentle solution for excess earwax. When you visit our Croydon Clinic, our nurse Kate Dawson will quickly and effectively rid your ears of unwanted wax, leaving them clean and healthy.

The procedure begins with Kate examining your ears using loupes, or special magnifying glasses. If it is determined that you need the procedure, she will then begin the process.

At Earworx, we use the micro-suction method to remove excess and impacted earwax. Micro-suction is the preferred method of experts in ear care. The tool functions like a vacuum, sucking excess wax out of your ear canal. It is the quickest and most effective way of removing earwax. This gentle approach is painless and takes only 30 minutes.

Symptoms of Excess Earwax

If you have excess or impacted earwax, you may experience symptoms such as itching, ringing in the ear, loss of hearing, dizziness or vertigo, and a painful blocked up sensation. This can be very uncomfortable if left untreated.

There are activities that should be avoided to prevent your earwax becoming impacted, or your ears from producing too much wax. These include wearing headphones for prolonged periods and regularly swimming or diving. Some people are also more likely to produce excess wax due to genetics or the narrow shapes of their ear canals.

Using cotton buds to try to clean the ear can push wax deeper and cause painful impaction, and even permanent damage. If you are suffering from excess earwax and experiencing some of these symptoms, it’s important not to attempt to remove the earwax yourself.
